A New Digital Home for Tiagarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre

At The Island Creative, we’re passionate about projects that connect communities, preserve heritage, and amplify meaningful stories. Last year, we had the privilege of working with Tiagarra, one of Australia’s oldest Aboriginal-operated cultural centres and keeping places, to create a brand-new website that honours its legacy while inviting visitors to learn more about its incredible history.

Celebrating Tiagarra’s Mission

Tiagarra, which means “to keep” in the local Aboriginal language, has been a cornerstone of cultural preservation, offering insights into the rich heritage and stories of the Palawa people. From its artefact collection to its educational programs, Tiagarra serves as a vital resource for understanding and appreciating Tasmania’s Indigenous history.

Our goal was simple yet significant: to design a website that would become a digital extension of Tiagarra’s mission, showcasing its importance while making its resources accessible to a wider audience.

What We Delivered

The new Tiagarra website focuses on:

  • Ease of Navigation: Ensuring visitors can easily explore the centre’s story, programs, and resources.
  • Visual Storytelling: Incorporating powerful imagery and a design that reflects the cultural significance of Tiagarra.
  • Community Engagement: Providing tools for event updates, visitor information, and ways for people to support Tiagarra’s mission.
  • Mobile-First Design: Recognising that many users access websites on the go, we ensured the site functions seamlessly on all devices.

The final product is a website that feels alive with history, culture, and the ongoing story of the Palawa people. It’s a place where Tiagarra’s mission to preserve and share knowledge continues to thrive in the digital age.
